We are proud to announce that Pocket Rice is partnering with Bay Grocer in Byron Bay for a weekly Friday pop-up.

Starting Friday, July 10th 2026, we will be bringing Pocket Rice to Bay Grocer (see directions) each week from 2:30 pm until 5:30 pm.

Bay Grocer#

Good food starts at Bay Grocer, Byron Bay's local food store.

Based in the heart of Byron Bay, Bay Grocer started as an idea from the owners Sarah Swan and Jeremy Burn (of 100 Mile Table) to open a store for locals and visitors alike.

Bay Grocer shares a vision akin to our own: bringing the very best local produce and highest-quality international foodstuffs into a space built for the community.

We are incredibly excited for the support and generosity that Sarah and Jeremy have shown us in taking a little dream and giving it life!

A weekly Friday afternoon pop-up#

Each week, Pocket Rice will be bringing Byron Bay's favourite onigiri to the cafe space out the front of Bay Grocer.

The space is perfect for a Friday afternoon catch-up with family and friends at the end of the week.

Pop-up details#

  • Where: Bay Grocer, 63 Tennyson Street, Byron Bay
  • When: Each Friday starting July 10th 2026
  • Time: 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm
  • What: Pocket Rice onigiri and weekly specials at Byron Bay's favourite local food store

What to expect#

Each Friday pop-up will be based in the Bay Grocer cafe area and will feature the fresh, simple Japanese flavours you know and love from our markets in the Byron Bay, Northern Rivers and Ballina regions.

We will be bringing the best locally sourced ingredients from local growers and producers, then combining them with the highest-quality rice, nori (seaweed) and salt that we sourced ourselves from our partners in Japan!

The menu may change as we settle into the pop-up, but the idea is simple: an easy Friday afternoon stop for onigiri before the weekend starts.

Start your weekend afternoons with us#

We are immensely grateful to Bay Grocer for welcoming Pocket Rice into their space, and we cannot wait to share this next step with everyone who has supported us at the markets.

We finally have the chance to let everyone know that we have another home outside of the monthly markets in our beautiful hometown of Byron Bay!
